DAO Enzyme Dietary management of fibromyalgia caused by DAO deficiency

Contains DAO enzyme (Diamine Oxidase). It also contains magnesium, which acts as an adjuvant in the dietary management of fibromyalgia caused by DAO deficiency. The active ingredient is a Novel Food according to EU Regulation 2015/2283. It works by metabolizing histamine ingested in the diet, preventing its accumulation in the blood and avoiding the onset of fibromyalgia, muscle pain and contractures, and osteopathic pain. It restores optimal levels of DAO activity thanks to its structural and functional equivalence with human DAO, preventing the absorption of histamine. The DAO enzyme contained in fibroDAO® has an enzymatic activity of >0.41 mU per capsule (>20,000 HDU).

What is the DAO?

DAO is the primary enzyme involved in the metabolism of ingested histamine. It is primarily located in the intestinal epithelium, where it degrades dietary histamine, preventing its passage into the bloodstream.

What is histamine?

Histamine is a vital molecule, a transmitter belonging to the so-called biogenic amines, naturally present in many foods and within our cells. Normally, ingesting histamine from food doesn't cause any problems, as it is rapidly processed and metabolized by the DAO enzyme.

What is DAO deficiency?

DAO deficiency occurs when the DAO enzyme is deficient in activity or when there is an imbalance between the histamine ingested in food and the enzyme's ability to metabolize it. As a result, histamine is not sufficiently metabolized or broken down, passing into the bloodstream and triggering various symptoms.

The usual symptoms when there is DAO deficiency are:

Fibromyalgia, muscle pain and contractures, and osteopathic pain. Digestive disorders, such as bloating, flatulence, constipation, or diarrhea. Dermatological disorders, such as dry or atopic skin. Non-allergic rhinitis. Tinnitus. Migraines and other headaches.

How does fibroDAO® work?

The Diamino Oxidase (DAO) in fibroDAO® complements the body's own enzyme responsible for metabolizing histamine. Taking a fibroDAO® capsule before each meal increases the amount of DAO in the small intestine and, therefore, the body's ability to break down histamine.

This accelerates the digestive tract's processing of the histamine present in food, which triggers the symptoms. The DAO enzyme contained in fibroDAO® acts only in the small intestine; it is not absorbed and has no systemic activity, making it a harmless product with no adverse effects.

What does fibroDAO® contain?

2 white/beige gastro-resistant DAO tablets with intestinal release. 2 lilac-colored immediate-release tablets with magnesium.

How should fibroDAO® be used?

Take 1 capsule with a little water 20 minutes before main meals (3 times a day). Swallow the capsule whole. If you cannot swallow the capsule whole, you can open it and swallow the tablets inside separately. Swallow them whole without chewing, splitting, or breaking them. If you cannot take magnesium (purple tablets), you can open the capsule and remove the corresponding tablets.

Conservation

fibroDAO® contains DAO, a thermolabile (temperature-sensitive) enzyme, so it's recommended to keep it away from heat sources. If consumed according to the recommended daily dose, it doesn't require special storage. However, if consumed occasionally and stored for an extended period, it's recommended to keep it refrigerated.

Bulking agents: microcrystalline cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose; magnesium oxide (magnesium); potato starch; coating agents: ethylcellulose and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose; pig kidney protein extract with 7% diamine oxidase (DAO), rice starch; stabilizers: magnesium salts of fatty acids, sodium alginate and stearic acid; medium chain triglycerides and oleic acid; coating agent: dicalcium phosphate; apple concentrate, blackcurrant and radish, spirulina and apple. Vegetable capsule: hydroxypropylmethylcellulose.
