Pregnancy: Pregnant and breastfeeding women can take ActiveComplex Vitamin E. What is Vitamin E? Vitamin E is a natural, fat-soluble vitamin of plant origin. Vitamin E is composed of a group of fat-soluble substances that are divided into tocopherols and tocotrienols. Vitamin E is found primarily in foods that contain fat. The two most prevalent types of vitamin E are alpha- and beta-tocopherol. Alpha-tocopherol is considered the most active form. Typically, vitamin tablets contain either dl-alpha-tocopherol or d-alpha-tocopherol, the latter of which is identical to the natural form of the vitamin. Absorption and effects of vitamin E: Vitamin E is absorbed in the small intestine along with fat. Absorption is incomplete. Absorption decreases with the ingestion of large amounts of vitamin E. People with impaired lipid absorption also have decreased absorption of vitamin E through the small intestine. Protects against oxidative stress: Vitamin E travels through the body in the same way as fat (bound to lipoproteins) and is distributed in most tissues. The physiological effect of vitamin E is believed to be related to its role as an antioxidant, where the nutrient inhibits the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. Vitamin E helps protect body cells from oxidative stress. The need for vitamin E is proportionally related to the consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Excretion of vitamin E: Vitamin E is most likely excreted in the bile and then in the feces. Vitamin E may enter breast milk, but it is very difficult for it to penetrate the placenta. Milligrams and international units: The vitamin is measured in milligrams (mg) and international units (IU). 1 mg of d-alpha-tocopherol = 1.49 IU Natural sources of vitamin E: Vitamin E is found mainly in plant foods. However, the liver contains a significant amount of vitamin E. Other natural sources of vitamin E include foods such as:- Fats- Corn products- Eggs- Cheese- Oily fish- MilkFreezing food causes the vitamin E content to lose its effect.Special care with:ActiveComplex Vitamin E should not be used in conditions indicating a vitamin K deficiency.
